Edi Rama, leader of the Socialist Party and at the same time Prime Minister, during the presentation of the SP candidates for deputies in the Tirana District, compared the Socialist Party of 2025 with the Democratic Party of 1992.
Rama said that in 1992, Albanians voted for the DP because this was where geopolitical developments were, and despite the fact that not everyone was with this party, they voted for the DP precisely because of these developments.
In this context, the Head of the Socialist Party said that even on May 11, Albanians, despite not being with the Socialist Party, should vote for this political force, to send a message to Europe. Rama said that if on May 11, Albanians vote for those in the swamp, thus labeling the 'Great Albania' coalition led by Sali Berisha's Democratic Party, they will lose the chance to join the country in the European Union.
" I do not discuss whether on May 11, the Socialist Party will receive 71 mandates or not, since it has already won 71 mandates, but we must send a clear message to the European Union that they are on the train of history. If we do not conclude the negotiations by 2027, the door will close and we will suffer like Macedonia, which opened negotiations in 2005, and today it is not known when the negotiations can be opened ," said Rama.
