Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji, during a meeting with Democrats in Kukës, increased his criticism of President Sali Berisha and the current party leadership.
He stated that the Democratic Party is failing to unite the opposition and voters, questioning its ability to win the elections.
" It has been shown that Berisha does not open the party, does not unite the opposition, cannot unite the people and has surrendered to himself, we can never win if we do not change ," said Salianji.
Salianji also raised concerns about the mobilization of the democratic electorate.
" Because the question for the leaders of the DP is how we will bring more than 800 thousand democrats to the ballot boxes against the government of Edi Rama ," he declared.
He also criticized the opposition's rhetoric and lack of concrete results.
" They tell Albanians every week it's the last kilometer, they say we can't beat Edi Rama, but who can we beat, we have to beat Edi Rama. SPAK is doing more opposition than the DP ," said Salianji.
The MP further emphasized that the consecutive electoral losses are related to the lack of changes in leadership.
" Since 2013, we have been losing every election with the same leaders because they don't want to give up their seats ," he said.
Salianji called on the leaders of the DP and Berisha himself to face each other in an open competition within the party.
" I have a sincere call for the leaders and Mr. Berisha, come out and compete. Give the democrats the opportunity to express themselves and vote ," declared Salianji.
He added that, in his opinion, in order to confront the current government, internal reform within the opposition is first necessary.
" Albanians have understood one thing, in order to defeat the government's authoritarianism, the opposition autocrats must be defeated, they cannot let the DP be destroyed ," said Salianji.
