'Civil Society' takes on the task of uniting the opposition, lecturer
Ermal Hasimja

Civil Society has taken over the unification of the opposition, as the Democratic Party failed at any point after the elections to sit down at a table with the young.

A civil society group, with an opposition stance, has decided to begin meetings with right-wing forces to negotiate the organization of a political table to reach an agreement.

Ermal Hasimja, while explaining the initiative and delivering his speech, emphasized that the invitation is open to everyone and that it is important to address and listen to the concerns of citizens.

"The opposition can come up with a unified stance on a certain proposal for the Territorial Reform. We are not a political party and we do not intend to. We each have our own professions and our goal is to express our concerns. The opposition is scattered and the government is what it is and we are trying to find a solution through this form. Because it is much easier to come to a table organized by people independent of political parties. The invitation is open to everyone," he said, adding: "We have defined some main framework principles and how far they will decide to go is up to them. But the most likely option is to cooperate in the function of a general interest. Is there something urgent, but a change of government...", he said.

Noting with concern the degradation of governance and the spread of corruption at all its levels, the increase in the power of organized crime and drug trafficking in public decision-making, and aware of the difficulties that the opposition has in building credible and effective alternatives, we, a group of citizens independent of parties, but with an opposition stance, Civil Society, have decided to undertake a public initiative to facilitate dialogue between opposition parties, reconcile positions and establish acceptable cooperation between them with the aim of:

-Creating the necessary pressure for free, fair and equal elections according to OSCE-ODIHR recommendations.

-Strengthening the opposition and cooperating for a common and credible opposition front, without affecting the identity and specificities of each party.

-Supporting the constitutional functioning of justice in its fight to combat corruption and drug trafficking in partnership with the US and the EU.

We aim to achieve these goals through:

-Reconciling opposition positions on a new electoral code that strengthens representative democracy and takes into account the interests of all opposition parties.

-Creating a cooperation platform between opposition parties in the context of the upcoming elections on the basis of joint interventions and guaranteeing the identity and subjectivity of each of them.

As part of this initiative, we call on all political factors and other opposition organizations to become part of this process, putting aside narrow political interests in the service of enabling a change of government in Albania.

In the coming days, the Political Dialogue Forum will meet with representatives of the opposition parties and then organize a joint roundtable to reach a reasonable and acceptable cooperation agreement.
