Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe has expressed his desire for a democratic process within the Socialist Party for the selection of the candidate for the Municipality of Tirana.
He demanded that the Socialist Party develop an open democratic process, where members, sympathizers and leftists directly elect their representatives.
Asked if he will run for mayor of Tirana in the 2027 local elections, Brace said he has not discussed the issue with Rama. He stressed that elections should not be won with favors or favors, but based on the real support of the people.
"Even after three months, you ask me this question again? I have not communicated with the chairman and this is not a lack of respect. I have said it and will continue to say it. It has nothing to do with my respect for the chairman of the Socialist Party or the prime minister, much less for Edi Rama, whom I considered a friend, to be honest. This is not it."
What I am asking for is a democratic process that should happen within this party. We want to compete in that process, which up until now has simply been a notice on the wall. This practice of notices is a practice that I oppose, to my heart's content.
What I have asked for in this case, as long as these are general local elections, is a democratic procedure within the SP, where the mass of members is called, the mass of sympathizers is called, the mass of leftists is called to elect by direct vote the representative they want to represent them in the Municipality of Tirana and, of course, the path that must be followed. I call this a process.
I do not own this process that I am asking for. Edi Rama and I have been together politically since 2003, when he ran for party leader. I wanted there to be cohesion in the SP. We do not agree on many things, but we are all there inside. The environment outside the SP should not serve as a field where you take your bow and shoot arrows inside the SP. No! You can be there inside and you have the freedom to say these things there.
I dispute this. I demand a real process of energizing the SP. We need energizing. Energizing is calling on the socialists and giving them what you asked for in 2023, what your platform was in 2005: the socialists elect the people they want to lead, who they want to represent, and on the other hand, they also choose the path they will follow to achieve their goals.
"You don't win elections like that. One of the reasons why I haven't spoken to Edi Rama is precisely because I don't want what I'm asking for to be answered with a favor or a favor. I don't want that. You don't win elections with a favor or a favor. I'm not looking for a career station. I'm looking for a job. I think of the Municipality of Tirana as a job," he emphasized on the "Real Story" show.
