The Jordan Times newspaper, known for its ties to the royal court in Amman and as an early warning of Western moves in the Middle East, reported on King Abdullah's surprise visit to Albania, Montenegro and the US.
The visit to Tirana was followed by high-level meetings with President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama, while immediately after the meetings in the Balkans, King Abdullah flew to Washington, where he will be received by President Donald Trump.
While the Albanian Presidency announced that the talks with King Abdullah focused on bilateral relations and regional developments, Prime Minister Rama's office did not provide details on the content of the discussions. This lack of transparency raises questions on the sensitive issue of Palestinian refugees.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has become critical after the devastation caused by the two-year Israeli military operation. Jordan has openly declared its inability to accept more Palestinians, stressing that the country is already overflowing with refugees who have dramatically changed the demographic and political balance of the kingdom.
In this context, Trump's controversial idea to empty Gaza and turn it into a luxury tourist resort is world-famous, even promoted by a provocative video on his official website, created with artificial intelligence. Although neither Trump nor Netanyahu can forcibly evict Gazans, the destruction of infrastructure is forcing them to flee to other countries.
Diplomatic sources have long hinted at Albania as a concrete possibility for hosting a large number of Palestinian refugees. Ermir Gjinishi, a well-known expert on the Middle East, stated on the "Zonë e Lirë" show that it is about the arrival of about 100 thousand Palestinian refugees, which was immediately denied by Prime Minister Rama.
However, King Abdullah's visit and the details he is expected to discuss with Trump in the Oval Office could bring more clarity on this sensitive issue. According to a source close to the Albanian government, Rama has not categorically rejected the idea of hosting Palestinian refugees, aiming to secure support from the Trump administration.
