Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, during a meeting with economic experts, said that Albanians have the highest oil price in the world compared to purchasing power. According to him, the government takes 60% of the price for each liter.
Berisha said that the prices of agricultural products, transportation prices, but also those of product processing are linked to oil prices.
"There is no other factor that deprives Albanian citizens who own cars of 7.2 percent of their daily income. At a time when the price of oil or a liter of oil in Germany costs Germans 1.2 percent of their daily income. It costs the Swiss about 1 percent of their daily income.
It costs Albanians 7 times more. This is the reality.
If we take the price of oil with what is called purchasing power, the price of oil in Albania is the absolute highest in Europe and in the world. So, compared to the purchasing power of their pockets, the price of oil for Albanian citizens is higher than in any country in Europe and in any country in the world. So, oil is a punishment for the citizens and the economy of the country.
There is no other country that has such a crazy fiscal burden on a liter of oil as Albania does. 60 percent of the price of oil is made up of what the government takes from citizens for each liter. No one does this except this government. No one does this and cannot imagine doing such a thing.
In 2013, the circulation tax was 7 old lek per liter. They increased it to 28 lek, they increased it four times.
"In an unprecedented cynical act, it has also made excise tax indexable. It does not index pensions for pensioners, no, it deceives them. It indexes the excise tax on oil and increases it in line with inflation. And this gives it a significant increase every year, and taken together, it adds 40 old lek to its price," said Berisha.
