Prime Minister Edi Rama has declared that Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj is a suspect and not a defendant for all that SPAK considers insufficient evidence.
The head of government has opposed the seizure and control of mobile phones, saying that justice should only intervene in the case it is investigating.
"How can you pick up the phone and say 'go away', the phone is checked in your presence," he said.
"People's phones are taken away and held hostage, where has this been seen? What standard is it to take someone else's phone and see everything inside, even blackmailing, insinuating about communication that could be completely intimate."
"Justice should only enter for the case it is investigating, it should check it in your presence, not take it and tell you to leave. One of the witnesses had his entire life blocked because he lived abroad and had all his bank transactions ," Rama said.
