The member of the National Council of the Democratic Party, Aulon Kalaja, spoke about the candidacies being discussed for the head of the Municipality of Tirana, while stating that it is still early to give a clear assessment of the race, as according to him the political platforms and concrete vision of the candidates are missing. He emphasized that up to this moment we have more declarations of desires and internal movements than a real structured electoral confrontation.
Focusing on the rumored names, he commented on the entry of Erion Braçe on the scene, stating that the latter has created a strong movement within the Socialist Party. According to him, this has shaken the internal balance, especially in relation to Ogerta Manastirliu, who was seen as a candidate close to Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Kalaja raised doubts as to whether this situation is a spontaneous development or a well-calculated strategy by Rama to test candidates and increase competition within the SP. He stressed that the possibility that this is a tactical move to place a stronger candidate in front of the opposition cannot be ruled out.
" The diagnosis is too early to make, because we have not yet seen the political platforms. We have a desire of an old socialist, for some honorable, for another part a worn-out figure like Erion Braçe, who has expressed the desire to run for mayor of Tirana. This has shocked the opinion within the Socialist Party, because this candidacy was promised to Mrs. Ogerta Manastirliu, who is considered a person very close to Mr. Rama. I am not yet clear whether this is a move thought by Mr. Rama or not. It could be a strategy to open a new dynamic within the Socialist Party, which for the sake of truth is to be appreciated, because it seemed as if the debate in this political force had long died. There are some other developments within the PS, including names that are being discussed for political projects, but I cannot say that there is a clear cohesion. The strongest movement remains that of Erion Braçe. It is not excluded that this is a move by Rama to "We have to test the ground and establish a more competitive candidate. But at this stage we are still at the level of speculation and time will clarify the situation ," said Kalaja, invited to "Review" on "Euronews Albania".
