Today, former Prime Minister Sali Berisha was summoned to be questioned by SPAK regarding the privatization of the former Partizani complex.

Below the apartment of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, meanwhile, there is the police waiting to accompany Berisha to the prosecutor's office.

In the 'Mustafa Matohiti' neighborhood where Berisha lives, there are two police cars, which will escort Berisha to SPAK.

Meanwhile, Berisha's lawyers, Genc Gjokutaj and Sokol Mêngjesi, are present in the palace where Berisha lives.

This is the first time that Berisha will be questioned in SPAK about the Partizani case, for which the measure of 'house arrest' has been set.

It will be the prosecutors Enkeleda Minollai and Arben Kraja who will direct questions to Berisha, while before the start of the session there are increased police forces in front of the Special Structure.

Berisha has not been allowed to leave his house for 3 weeks, he has found a way to communicate with the Democrats. From the window of his apartment, he has been giving speeches for two weeks now, every afternoon, calling on supporters to protest against the government.

The session is expected to be held at 10:00.

Berisha himself has not made any statement so far and it is not known if he will go, or if he will present only the lawyers. But Berisha's daughter, Argita Malltezi, declared yesterday in an appearance for the media that the former prime minister will appear in SPAK.

Two days later, on January 25, SPAK called to interrogate his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi, in the investigation for money laundering for the privatization of the former Partizani sports complex.

What exactly is Berisha accused of?

The former prime minister of Albania, Sali Berisha, is accused of passive corruption and as a result has been banned from traveling abroad following a decision of the Special Prosecutor's Office of Albania (SPAK) late Saturday.

SPAK announced that it has assigned Berisha the security measure of "obligation to appear" as well as "prohibition of exiting the country".

Berisha is suspected as part of an investigation into suspicions of corruption during the privatization of the "Partizani" sports complex.

The sports complex "Partizani", with an area of 26 thousand square meters, was privatized in 2008, until that time it was the property of the Ministry of Defense.

About 22 thousand square meters belonged to 64 heirs of five families of the former owners, among them Jamarbër Malltezi, while another 4 thousand square meters were state property. At the end of the process of returning this property, Jamarbër Malltezi managed to get 35% of the entire property, including the part that was state land.

According to the lawsuit submitted to SPAK, this was done through the dubious decisions of Sali Berisha's Government. On that benefited area, Jamarbër Malltezi together with his partner Fatmir Bektashi, have built several towers.

For these constructions, in the report submitted to the Prosecutor's Office, it is emphasized that the source of the income is not known. Several former Ministers of Defense and Economy from the then Government of Berisha have been summoned to SPAK for this issue.

Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his family, including his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi, have been declared non grata by the United States, under suspicion of being involved in high corruption and violation of democracy.
