It was December 1998, when the students went on a hunger strike and at that time the opposition led by Sali Berisha demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Pandeli Majko.
After many long-distance clashes, the Prime Minister, Pandeli Majko, and the head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, on December 22, 1998, shook hands at the meeting about the student hunger strike and the issue of Kosovo.
Lorenc Vangjeli in the show "Contrast" has stopped at that meeting revealing for the first time the secret conversation that took place. Based on the fact that Milosevic was starting the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, Vangjeli says that Berisha was made aware of what was expected to happen in Kosovo, so they were asked to join together.
"When the September event happened with the murder of MP Azem Hajdari, which was widely considered a coup d'état, the overthrow of a socialist government by Fatos Nano, the coming to power of the Majko-Meta duo and in December the students were stuck in a hunger strike in the student town while in the first weeks, or rather in the second week of December 98, this may sound like something that will come from the movies, the announcement came in Tirana that the Serbs were planning to carry out the ethnic cleansing operation in the spring of the following year. What followed at that time was the removal of the students from the hunger strike with the intervention of the police even and with a trick after 25 years these things can be said, the word was opened that there could be terrorist acts and for protected and their lives were intervened by the police to get them out.
On December 28, the first meeting took place between the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of the time Mr. Majko and Ilir Meta with Sali Berisha accompanied by Genc Pollo in the premises of a well-known hotel in Tirana. Contrary to what has been said and commented, I can only quote one phrase, Mr. Berisha, in the capacity of former prime minister and former president of the country, was made aware of what was expected to happen, the fact that the republic would have to face Albania and Kosovo and was asked that for the sake of what was expected to happen to the Albanians who were recently identifying an enemy in front of us to come together. I am quoting just one phrase: "And now those protests are better not to take place. Look here, do you understand democracy or not". And then the answer of the two 30-year-old socialists was: If you do this again we will hit you".
And I say this not only as a witness. Afterwards, the massacre of Recak was the wake-up call that woke up the West, which still had nightmares of what had happened in Bosnia. And here the events followed one after the other to reach the conference of Rambuje. The role of the Albanianness of those commanders who came out of the war was extraordinary. Albania was a water drop with such a fragile balance that it made the balance weighed down by the light from the progress from humanity to the independence of Kosovo.
Unfortunately, invoking the blood of those martyrs who lost their lives there and in other massacres, the endless suffering of the Albanians who were displaced from their homes by violence and blood with guns. We must appeal to our memory and understand a dramatic thing, why among the Albanians, what we gain with blood and sacrifice in war, we lose through our stupidity in peace. Either in Pristina or in Tirana. And this is to design tomorrow's Tirana and Pristina of the next 25 years, different from what it is today," said Vangjeli.
