Prime Minister Edi Rama held a joint press conference with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, giving clear political and military signals about the alliance between Tirana and Tel Aviv.
In his statement, Rama stressed that Albania supports the Gaza Peace Plan proposed by President Donald Trump; a position that openly aligns our country with the American-Israeli line in the Middle East. “ We will support all efforts, including President Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan ,” he declared.
The Albanian Prime Minister mentioned the close cooperation in the field of security and defense with Israel, thanking the latter for its assistance after the cyberattack orchestrated by Iran. “ As we pray for the countless souls who have lost their lives, we hold out hope that the days of Tehran’s murderers are coming to an end ,” Rama said, with a strong political tone towards the Iranian regime.
He also mentioned that Albania is in the process of new agreements for military and technological production, mentioning the "Made in Albania" project in the defense sector, which aims to export abroad.
While Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Albania for its support for the Jewish people during the Holocaust. He focused on two important points during his speech: the increase in the number of Israeli tourists in Albania and the opening of the Jerusalem Chamber of Commerce, which will strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
“ He represents the true spirit of Albania. Perhaps the world does not know and should know that Albania was the only European country that during the Holocaust had a Jewish population within Albania that grew and did not diminish. Albanian Muslims protected thousands of Jews and welcomed them. People should recognize the moral role that Albania played during the darkest hours. You stood by the truth, you stood by Israel, your moral compass did not waver and this is something that we deeply appreciate and that marks you as an extraordinary leader of your people and I think of those segments of humanity that want the truth to be defended and the moral values that we share to be defended. The number of Israeli tourists who have gone to Albania has increased by 800% and will soon become much more. We have Israeli investment companies that know that there is a great opportunity in Albania and things that can be developed together with Albanians. This will be taken even further with the opening of the Chamber of Commerce tomorrow and it is something that will advance economic ties. We have an understanding that goes beyond interests, but in the deepest sense of human sympathy, there is a foundation of empathy and a basis of brotherhood ,” Netanyahu said.
