The massive transition of people from the Freedom Party to the Socialist Party and the hypocritical game of the majority that is challenging the loyalty of the socialist electorate...
Blendi Gonxhe, one of the names that Edi Rama seems to be preparing to lead the Municipality of Tirana, recently appeared at Kombinat alongside Esmeralda Demiraj, former president of the Freedom Party's Women's Party, calling her a "friend with positive energy." He is not the first to do this: many SP politicians are bringing people to the electoral showcase who until yesterday were part of Ilir Meta's attempt to re-establish his sovereignist party after the failure of Monika Kryemadhi.
In fact, in the 2021 elections, Monika Kryemadhi received over 100,000 votes—a not-so-modest result, although not necessarily thanks to her political skill or Meta's moves from the position of President. The real problem was precisely Ilir Meta, who, with his chaotic behavior and absurd attempts to penetrate the PD's fanatical electorate, caused the greatest possible damage.
His arrest accelerated the mass exodus of people he had until yesterday considered loyal. There are theories that behind this abandonment are Monika and people like Indrit Brahimllari, today a candidate for deputy of the Socialist Party. It is not excluded that Kryemadhi has retained a dose of revenge against his ex-husband, who left him in such a spectacular way.
But the reality on the ground tells a different story. Faik Basha, one of the most active figures of the Freedom Party in the media and a harsh critic of the Rama government, has today become an open supporter of the SP. No one can deny them the right to change positions, but the manner and speed of this transition does nothing but confirm the old saying: "You can't make a rabbit hutch."
Politically, this raises two important issues. The first relates to Edi Rama's majority, which is using former fierce political opponents as an electoral showcase. This tactical move by Rama is an arrogant and hypocritical insult to the socialists who have remained loyal to the SP's political project for decades.
On the other hand, this development is a direct consequence of the political boomerang of Ilir Meta, who years ago arrogantly removed prominent leftist figures such as Pëllumb Xhufi, Sabit Brokaj and Fatos Klosi, to replace them with people that the great Dritëroi would call "wrestlers". It is precisely these "wrestlers" who have today taken refuge in the lap of Edi Rama, where they are presenting themselves as political "top models".
In the end, the biggest victims of this story remain the ordinary socialists, who today face the bitter reality that Ilir Meta's "rabbits" have now become Edi Rama's "lions."/ Pamphlet
