Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali has reacted to negative comments online against Judge Astrit Kalaja, who was shot dead in the Court of Appeals hall, as well as the glorification of the killer's actions, considered online as a 'heroic act'.
Spiropali writes that hatred towards the victims and attempts to justify the murderer for committing extreme acts is not the image of European Albania.
"The recent attempt to glorify the barbaric act of murdering Judge Kalaja through a series of media publications, followed by a stream of disgusting comments addressed to the victim, is extremely shocking."
Equally outrageous is the attempt to justify the killer for the extreme act that took one life and injured two others.
Hatred for victims and exaltation of aggressors by exploiting the freedom to write and comment in the digital space can in no way be a European Albania.
While we are negotiating with the EU to move ever closer to European media standards and democratic ethics, full awareness and reflection are needed on future legal measures that protect the dignity of the individual, as well as freedom of expression.
Unverified publications about the murderous protagonism and the wave of defamatory comments on social networks about the victim can in no way be the face of Albanian society.
The real Albania is much more than that; it is value, it is respect, it is dignity!
My deepest condolences to the family of Judge Kalaja and solidarity with the judges, prosecutors and all servants of the Albanian state! ", writes Spiropali.
Comments like "good luck" or "this is justice and man", were the writings that exploded on the network after the shocking event of two days ago. Judge Astrit Kalaja was shot because of his duty at the time he was exercising it by Elvis Shkambi.
