The Secretary for Legal Affairs in the Democratic Party, Indrit Sefa, has stated that he is still discussing with the local branch in Kukës, to find a candidate who will compete in the extraordinary mayoral elections on September 24.
In an interview with ABC News, Sefa said that the main decision-making belongs to the Kuka PD branch. Regarding the decision of KAS that recognizes the Freedom Party as the largest opposition force, Sefa stated that PD will address the Electoral College.
"It is a decision-making in open contradiction with the provisions of the law, as was the previous decision-making 3 weeks ago, which the DP opposed and addressed to the Electoral College. The Electoral College, which gave the right to the DP, was a decision we expected. We will turn to the Electoral College and we believe that in the Electoral College the situation will be clarified and it will be determined that PD is the second largest party in the country and the largest opposition party in Albania.
As we have made clear repeatedly, even in the statements we have made, it is a process which is in constant consultation with the local branch in Kukës, taking into account the previous decision-making of the Presidency, who decided that there would be no candidate on May 14. This is a discussion that is dealing with local factors there. PD is available to all democrats, and normally thinks and the alternatives it examines are in favor of the democrats and the right-wing in the Kukës area. Taking into consideration that these are also local elections and there are local interests in the way the citizens there evaluate and look at the opportunity to compete, the Kukës branch will definitely have the final decision-making. We are waiting, we are in continuous discussions with the PD branch in Kukës", said Sefa.
