
The American ambassador in Prishtina, Jeffrey Hovenier, today hosted some Kosovo Serb politicians in a meeting to discuss important issues for their community.
"I had the opportunity to host some Serbian political representatives of Kosovo today. Different opinions and pluralism are components of any strong and healthy democracy. I reiterated our unwavering support for a sovereign, multi-ethnic and democratic Kosovo," Hovenier wrote.
At the meeting, according to a photo published by the ambassador on August 22, the leader of the Party of Kosovo Serbs, Aleksandar Jabllanovic, the chairman of the Movement of Kosovo Serbs, Branimir Stojanovic, the chairman of the Civic Initiative for Zubin Potok, Milija Bishevac, were present. , and the chairman of the "Serbian Survival" Initiative, Aleksandar Arsenijević.
Hovenier did not elaborate on what was discussed about the issues of the Serbian community in Kosovo. In Kosovo, the largest Serb party is Lista Serbe, which is supported by official Belgrade. In the last ten years, she has won both local and general elections.
Despite the fact that Serbs are the majority in ten municipalities in Kosovo, the exact number of members of this community is not known, since they refused to participate in the last population census in 2011. However, it is estimated that around 100,000 members of the Serbian community. According to the Constitution, communities enjoy special rights and the way of using their national symbols is regulated by law.
Also, regarding the use of the language, at the state level, the official languages are Albanian and Serbian. Meanwhile, the languages of other communities enjoy the status of official language in the municipalities where one community constitutes the majority.
