Jakup Krasniqi's lawyer, Alagendra Venkateswari, has returned once again to summarize the speech on behalf of the former UKÇ commander's defense.
The lawyer describes Krasniqi as one of the greatest activists for Kosovo's freedom.
"For his activism, Krasniqi has paid dearly. He spent 10 years as a political prisoner, from 1981-1991, where he suffered severe torture and mistreatment, in appalling conditions at the hands of the Yugoslav authorities. He is an opponent of the Serbian regime and is proud of this, not out of hatred of Serbs, but because he opposed the apartheid policies against Kosovo Albanians, imposed by the Serbian regime of Slobodan Milosevic," she said.
She quotes foreign officials as describing Krasniqi as a constructive figure who sought peaceful solutions, and who did not seek confrontation or confrontation.
"Jakup Krasniqi is different, he is not the same as Milosevic, or as such. Honorable judges, do not believe me, but local and international witnesses have weighed in on Mr. Krasniqi as a moderate. They remember his desire and willingness to engage collaboratively and find peaceful solutions. And what is most important, no witnesses have testified that Mr. Krasniqi was perceived as involved in crimes or a criminal plan. Otherwise, the allegations are not believed," the lawyer continued.
