According to him, it is not only Bosnia that is endangered by Serbian nationalism, but also Kosovo.
The former director of European affairs at the National Security Council of the United States in the administrations of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, Charles Kupchan, has stated that Serbian nationalism poses a serious threat to the stability of the Western Balkans region.
The political situation remains particularly fragile in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the president of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, is seeking to secede from Bosnia in order to join Serbia.
Georgetown University professor Charles Kupchan sees these political developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina as dramatic.
According to him, it is not only Bosnia that is endangered by Serbian nationalism, but also Kosovo.
" Without a doubt, Serbian nationalism has been and continues to be a threat to the Western Balkan region. It was Serbian nationalism led by Slobodan Milosevic that set the Balkan region on fire during the 90s. Even now we have a dangerous situation in the region, where the president of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, is playing dangerously with nationalist cards. He considers that the Serbian Republic should be independent in the future and that he should be its president. But I want to say one more thing, Serbian nationalism is not only a big concern for Bosnia, but also for Kosovo ," he said for TV1.
" Russia is interested in ensuring that there is no peace in the Balkan region, and that is why they pushed forward Serbian nationalism. There is clear evidence when Russia tried to prevent Montenegro's membership in NATO structures. Moscow is looking for spaces to destabilize the Balkan region again, therefore it is very important that Kosovo closes the chapter with Serbia once and for all. The latter is approaching the days when it will have to choose which way it will continue, with Russia and China or with the West. Vucic's roads are narrowing and it will be impossible for him to continue playing with a few cards ," says the former director of European affairs at the US National Security Council.
The President of the Republic of Srpska, Mirolad Dodik, is on the list of persons sanctioned by the United States of America, for corruption and violation of the legitimacy and functionality of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The former Director of the Security and Information Agency of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin, has also been added to the list of American sanctions.
Vulin and Dodik have openly said that they intend to create the so-called "Serbian world" where they will unite Serbs wherever they live.
