The US envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, will report to the White House today about the escalation of the situation in the north of Kosovo.
For this point, he has asked Kosovo and Serbia to move, since the answers received and Friday's report to the White House, Escobar said that decisions will follow.
"After this visit, we will be asked by the White House on Friday to give them an update on what's going on. And I have to report whether there is any progress or not. Miroslav Lajcak should report to Josep Borrell about the situation. It is not a deadline, but another step for me and based on my report we will make some decisions and move forward", he declared.
Furthermore, the US envoy for the Western Balkans has said that the situation in the north of Kosovo must be de-escalated immediately and that he does not want to wait until July for new elections.
He reiterated that the formation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority is a "legal requirement" for the Government of Kosovo and that "if Kosovo wants to move forward with its integration, it must form the Association". "The question is whether this will happen with this Government or with the next government", said Escobar.
Meanwhile, yesterday the Prime Minister of Kosovo complained about bias towards his country by the United States and the European Union and tolerance towards what he called the authoritarian regime of Serbia.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Kurti said that his cabinet has a different opinion.
"We insist that being nice to an autocrat does not make him behave better. On the contrary", said the Prime Minister of Kosovo.
The US and EU envoys for the Kosovo-Serbia talks, Gabriel Escobar and Miroslav Lajçak, respectively, "come to us with requests, with the requests of the other party", said Kurti in an interview with the Associated Press.
AP recalls that recently "ethnic Serbs clashed with Kosovo police and then with the NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping force, leaving 30 soldiers and over 50 Serbs injured and provoking fears of renewed bloody conflicts in region".
"Western powers should not satisfy Belgrade, the root problem of violence in the Western Balkans", says Kurti.
