Removal of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo, Kurti: The Bank's decision is

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that the decisions of the Central Bank of Kosovo (CBK) are independent, and so is the one regarding the ban on the circulation of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo.

Kurti said that the CBK regulations and decisions are fully in accordance with the Constitution and laws of Kosovo.

"CBK decisions are independent and CBK is an independent institution. The regulations they approve are completely in accordance with the laws and the Constitution of Kosovo. I believe that we should leave the CBK alone and Governor Ahmet Ismail to do his job, as he has earned the trust of the Assembly of our Republic. He is doing a very good job and has clearly and accurately explained that in Kosovo the only currency for exchange and purchase is the euro. We do not wish to punish anyone, but only to bring legality, constitutionality and regularity to the north of Kosovo and everywhere where there are Serbs in Kosovo" , Kurti said.

He added that with the measures taken by the Government, the vast majority of Serbian citizens in Kosovo have bank accounts opened in Kosovo banks. He added that even those who do not have an account will have it for free.

"So, in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, there are four bank branches and there are 15 non-banking financial institutions, where remittances and payments can be sent and where all of them can be received in euros. The euro is a currency that comes to us from the European Union. We are not telling anyone to get the Albanian lek currency or a new Kosovo Dardan currency, but the euro, the euro as the only means of payment and purchase clearly defined in the Republic of Kosovo is not a negotiable issue Kurti said.
