Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has said that the solution to break the deadlock in the Kosovo Assembly is a secret ballot. Kurti also defended the candidacy of Albulena Haxhiu.
"Albulena Haxhgiu is neither in question nor in question. The answer is the secret ballot, for which the opposition, unfairly and to the detriment of the state of Kosovo, is preventing the quorum," the prime minister said in a brief statement to journalists on Monday.
On Sunday, Kosovo's parliamentarians failed for the 21st time in a row to form the ninth parliamentary legislature, resulting from the February 9 elections. The failure to form the new parliament has plunged the country into a political deadlock, leaving it without a new government more than three months after the elections.
The session was adjourned and will resume on May 27 at 11:00. 53 deputies voted in favor of the secret ballot committee vote for the Speaker, and one vote against and no abstentions. 90 deputies were present in the plenary hall.
The successive failures are occurring despite calls from within and outside the country to move forward with the creation of institutions, including the recent warning from the European Union's Foreign Policy Chief, Kaja Kallas.
Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Vlora Çitaku has called on acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti to reflect. She said that in the February 9 elections, citizens did not vote for a blockade, but for the construction of new institutions.
Vetevendosje Movement MP Arbëreshë Kryeziu told the media that the process will not be blocked by political entities. According to her, the problem is not the name but a blocking reason behind which the opposition stands. But according to her, LVV will not get involved in these political bargains.
The nomination for parliamentary speaker is the exclusive right of the election winner, LVV, which insists that Haxhiu deserves to be elected and, although it has sought a political agreement with other parties, has ruled out the possibility of bringing forward a candidate other than itself.
