The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has stated that the talks with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, ended without success, adding that a clear path towards the normalization of relations between the two countries has not been found.
"We all have our proposals, the Albanians have theirs, we have ours. In the end, we as Serbia have accepted the compromise proposal of the EU. Kurti did not want to accept it. The meeting has ended. It is it is clear that Kurti is simply avoiding the formation of the AKS. This is the essence of everything. Serbia does not run away from its obligations" , he wrote.
Among other things, he added that the Association should be formed based on the agreements of 2013 and 2015. According to him, it is an agreement accepted by both parties at that time and therefore the agreement should be signed.
" We had several agreements with Prishtina, the first basis was the Brussels agreement that we reached on April 19, 2013. This is something we have insisted on from the beginning, it was a letter signed by both parties, then we had the implementation plan and the principles that we agreed on in 2015. Both parties have signed these documents. It is something we have insisted on from the beginning. We accepted everything we agreed to later, in the following years, especially this year. But we must start with the implementation, and everything must start with the AKS. But the other party will not implement it. It's a vicious circle, waiting for the same issue ," said the Serbian president.
Vucic also said that there were not many positive things from the meeting. But he said that it is important to talk.
"In terms of the flow, there haven't been many pleasant things, but a lot of unpleasant things. Logically, we are all fighting for ourselves. It is clear that Kurti is avoiding the formation of the AKS. Serbia is not running away from its obligations, but we talked to the EU about how things should proceed. And we accepted such a proposal, despite the fact that it was not easy, but Kurti rejected it and that's how everything ended ," said Vucic.
The Serbian President stated that Kurti rejects the formation of the Association and says that it can only be established based on the Constitution of Kosovo and not have executive rights as Federica Mogherini said in an exchange of letters and also based on a written oped by Gabriel Escobar and Derek Chollet".
" It's not what you want, but what we agreed on ," said Vucic.
He said that the EU has proposed a compromise, and that the Serbian side has accepted, but "Kurti refused".
Vučič was also asked about the membership of North Mitrovica in the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo and the votes that were made today in Leposavić and Zubin-Potok in favor of membership in the Association.
Vucic called these "games that are escalating the situation". For the new elections in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, Vučič has said that it is important to go with the path of resignations.
