The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has also reacted to the passing of journalist Artur Zheji.
Kurti, in a post on social media, praises him as a rare journalist, while also mentioning the journalist's commitment to Kosovo.
"Artur Zheji, a personality of the written and television media, left us yesterday at the age of 64. I remember the conversations with him, in front of or behind the cameras, because rare have been and are journalists who, beyond the news of the day, engage and delve with intellectual seriousness into the issues and subjects they face. Such was Artur Zheji, whose words were not spoken in order to be forgotten the next day.
His father, born in Gjirokastra, is the erudite intellectual and eclectic translator Petro Zheji. His mother, born in Gjakova, is the prominent actress of the National Theater in Tirana and the “New Albania” Film Studio, Besa Imami.
Coming from such a family, it is understandable why Artur Zheji could not be superficial in his treatment of Kosovo and more broadly the Albanians in the region. He was not simply a war reporter, but an activist journalist, an emancipated patriot, a committed documenter, who helped internationalize our cause and increase the resonance of our just demand for freedom.
"To the family, relatives, colleagues, collaborators and public of Petro Zheji, I express my sincere condolences for this great loss!" Kurti writes.
