The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, had a discussion at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York yesterday.
In most of her speech, she spoke about the relationship with Serbia and its trends in Kosovo, but also about Kosovo's foreign policy.
Osmani stated that Kosovo is 100% aligned with the foreign policy of the USA, as well as citing EU reports that Kosovo is 100% aligned with that of the EU, the media in Kosovo write.
In this regard, she was asked by the audience if Kosovo stands 100% in the same line as the USA in the Middle East, while someone from the audience mistakenly stated that Kosovo is part of the Chinese government's "Belt and Road" initiative - a China strategy launched in 2013 to invest in more than 150 countries and international organizations.
Osmani said that Kosovo is the only country in the Western Balkans that is not part of this initiative and that it does not intend to be, saying that "we believe that there is a malignant influence" from China and that the countries of the region have not prospered from this Chinese influence, but on the contrary, reports EuronewsAlbania.
" And we are absolutely aligned on foreign policy, both in the Middle East (which was the question earlier), but also on the question of China and Russia. When it comes to alignment, this counts for the EU, but we also align our foreign policy with the US, especially when it comes to sanctions. We do not cooperate with China. We have not allowed China to use any instrument in policy making, even in creating public opinion. Of course they tried ," she said.
