
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, spoke in New York with the President of Iran, Masud Pezeshkijan, and, as he emphasized, the special topic of the conversation was the situation in Kosovo.
Vučić wrote on Instagram that he thanked Iran for "its steadfast and determined stance regarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia".
The meeting of the two presidents was held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Since 2021, Serbia has strengthened cooperation with Iran, despite the fact that it is a state under European Union (EU) sanctions, with whose foreign and security policy it is obliged to harmonize as a candidate state for membership in the bloc. European.
Official Belgrade counts on Tehran's support for the issue of Kosovo, whose independence even Iran does not recognize.
Vucic, as reported, during the meeting with the Iranian president, emphasized the importance of the United Nations institution in efforts to intensify dialogue and diplomatic activities in order to calm all conflicts as quickly as possible, the consequences of which are already deep and long term.
Vucic has invited the president of Iran to visit Serbia.
"We exchanged views on the country and the role of our countries in the international political arena, as well as on the need to use our influence in the best possible way for the purpose of development, progress, peace, stability and economic connection, which today are very important necessary for all of us", added Vucic.
For Kosovo, also with the head of Chinese diplomacy
Kosovo was one of the topics of Vucic's conversation with the head of Chinese diplomacy, Wang Yi.
As he wrote on Instagram, Vucic presented to the head of Chinese diplomacy "the increasingly difficult situation of the Serbian people" in Kosovo and asked for Chinese support "in the fight for truth and respect for international law".
Serbia counts on the support of China, which also does not recognize the independence of Kosovo declared in 2008.
Vučić also emphasized that Serbia is grateful to China after it voted against the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica in the United Nations General Assembly in May of this year.
