Kosovo's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gërvalla, delivered a harsh speech at the UN Security Council meeting, where she emphasized that the term "Kosovo and Metohija" is a remnant of Serbian hegemonic language and a symbol of Serbia's claims over Kosovo.
" Let me clarify that there is no 'Kosovo Metohija'. It does not exist, ladies and gentlemen. Kosovo Metohija is a clear expression of Serbia's hegemonic ambitions over Kosovo. It is the old language of Slobodan Milosevic and those who still follow him ," Gervalla declared.
She emphasized that Kosovo is a true Western democracy in the Balkans, with extraordinary support from NATO and the United States.
" We are the most pro-NATO and pro-US country in the world. About 13,000 people were killed by Serbian atrocities instigated by Milosevic – and his president during that genocide was Mr. Vučić, who is the president of Serbia today ," she added.
Gërvalla has warned that Serbia continues to pose a real threat to the region, through extensive state propaganda and possible preparations for aggression.
" We see every day the ruthless propaganda machine in the media controlled by Vučić, which poisons Serbian society and spreads hatred. All over Serbia you can see murals and graffiti that shout 'when the army returns to Kosovo' – not 'if', but 'when'. They do not hide their intentions ," she stressed.
