Kosovo-Serbia reports, British Foreign Minister: Citizens do not want a fight
James Cleverly

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, during an interview for "Opinion", also spoke about the situation created between Kosovo and Serbia.

He said that Great Britain wants to improve relations between the countries and has talked with both sides through the special envoy.

Fevziu: We have a big problem in the region, not only in Albania, the history and relations between Kosovo and Serbia. Unfortunately, after the attack inside the territory of Kosovo on September 24, relations are still at zero level. What do you think about the relations between Kosovo and Serbia? What will be the future of the two countries? I heard that you had bilateral meetings with both delegations, Prime Minister Kurti and Prime Minister Brnabič, what do you think about the talks or relations between Kosovo and Serbia?

Cleverly: We are very sensitive and want to see this relationship improve. After September 24, as you said, that moment has created real tension between Pristina and Belgrade and it has certainly been a point of discussion in today's meetings. I had direct meetings with Prime Minister Kurti and Prime Minister Brnabič...

Fevziu: Not both together?

Cleverly: Not both together, but we told them that Great Britain, through the special envoy, Lord Stuart Peach, is very willing to continue working with both Pristina and Belgrade, to try to improve relations, to try to bring peace, try to bring stability, something we feel very strongly about, we are willing to work with both countries and try to bring improvement in their relations.

Fevziu: The talks have been going on for 20 years and we have no final solution. Of course, it is a big problem, a very complicated story, but in the end we need a solution, because we have a frozen situation between Serbia and Kosovo.

Cleverly: And I think what should not escape us is that the ethnic groups in both countries feel that the respective governments are treating them fairly, so the minority communities in both countries, and that the relationship between the two countries shows that individuals do not see themselves at a disadvantage because of a fight that's going on between governments, or between the political class, and I think if we can restore that trust at the community level, we might be able to bring more peace and achieve good results .
