Ambassadors from QUIN countries met on Wednesday afternoon with the heads of state of Kosovo, President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Speaker Glauk Konjufca, the Presidency announced.
In a short announcement on Facebook, the Presidency said that the topic of the meeting was Kosovo's aim for membership in the Council of Europe, without giving any other details.
Kosovo intends to join the Council of Europe in the coming months, after last week, the Committee for Politics and Democracy of this organization approved the report of the rapporteur for Kosovo, Dora Bakoyannis, who recommended that it met the conditions to become full member of the Council of Europe.
The Parliamentary Assembly is expected to vote on Kosovo's membership in April, and if it gives the green light, then the Council of Europe's Council of Ministers must give the final say in May.
Serbia voted against the Bakoyannis report and intends to continue its opposition to Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, although it is required not to oppose the neighboring country's membership in any international organization in accordance with the Basic Agreement that the parties reached in the dialogues mediated by EU in February 2023.
The EU says that the Framework Agreement is legally binding on Kosovo and Serbia.
Days ago, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Serbia's reaction should be "strong, serious and responsible" to Kosovo's possible membership in the Council of Europe.
The membership of Pristina has been updated in recent weeks, since, with the request of the Government of Kosovo to the Cadastral Agency for the transfer of 24 hectares of land in the name of the Monastery of Deçan, one of the main conditions for membership has been fulfilled.
In March, the QUINT States welcomed the decision of the Government of Kosovo for the Cadastral Agency to implement the decision of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo of 2016 for the property of the Monastery of Deçan. QUINT includes the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy./ REL
