Three arrested for state reserves, Hajdari: I see no reason to resign

The authorities in Kosovo have arrested three people, under the suspicion that they have misused the purchases of state reserves.

The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo said that the arrested persons are suspected of criminal offenses: "misuse of official duty" and "providing assistance in the commission of the criminal offense of misuse of official duty".

The Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Trade (MINT) confirmed that two of the arrested are its officials.

Through a press release, the Special Prosecutor's Office, which issued the order for arrests, said that those arrested are the persons with the initials, RMHG and IL

The arrestees were detained for 48 hours.

The notice also mentions the raid of some premises and the seizure of material evidence.

MINT, meanwhile, said that on August 18, the offices of two high-ranking officials of this ministry were searched: the director of the state reserves department, Hafiz Gara, and the director of the European integration department, Irfan Lipovica.

"The Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Trade welcomes any investigation into the case of the purchase of the state reserve, because we are convinced that the state supplies and reserves are in accordance with the relevant laws, the relevant plan and no harm or damage has occurred to them". said the MINT's response.

According to local media reports in Kosovo, the third arrested person is Ridvan Muharremi, and in this case there are suspicions of misuse of state reserves.

In a press conference on Friday afternoon, the Ministry of Industry, Rozeta Hajdari, said that during the raids, the police took as evidence documents that are classified as state secrets.

She said that the Kosovo Police "did not present a secret security certificate", adding that the receipt of these documents was done in violation of the Law on the Protection of Classified Information.

Hajdari said that the documents that were received as evidence in the Ministry were classified as state secrets.

Hajdari added that there is no doubt about the officials who were detained today, while also answering the question of whether he will resign:

"For every process of justice institutions and law enforcement institutions, we have to wait for the epilogue of the cases. At this moment, from the information we have, it is impossible to predict the outcome of this case. The institutions have their work".

The opposition parties have criticized the Government led by Albin Kurti, for what they said were "scandals and corrupt affairs".

Memli Krasaniqi, the leader of the largest opposition party in Kosovo, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, has requested that the country go to parliamentary elections.
