Diller and Fürstenberg first met in 1974, at a time when he was only dating men. The designer was the first woman in his life.
Although their romantic relationship crisis first occurred in 1981, they resumed their relationship in 1991 and married in 2001, spending over 50 years together in a relationship that challenged classic forms of love and sexuality.
"I never questioned my sexuality (I was just afraid of other people's reactions). But in my romance with Diana I never doubted that heterosexual biological impulses were as strong as homosexual ones," he continues.
