George Clooney slams Donald Trump: His statements on Iran are war crimes

The debate between actor George Clooney and the White House intensified after his criticism of former President Donald Trump's stance on Iran. Clooney called Trump's rhetoric a "war crime," stressing that political differences do not justify such threats to civilizations.

The White House's reaction was immediate and harsh. Communications director Stephen Chung mocked the actor, telling The Independent that "the only one committing war crimes is George Clooney for his terrible movies and his poor acting."

In a response to Deadline, Clooney stressed that the global situation requires seriousness, not personal insults. He referred to the legal definitions of war crimes under the Genocide Convention and the Rome Statute, challenging the US administration's stance.

The actor, a supporter of Democrats, has often been critical of Trump's policies and in 2025 attracted attention when he publicly called on former President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race through an article in The New York Times.

Clooney has admitted that his relationship with Trump was more friendly before his presidency: "I knew him very well... He was a very humorous guy. Well, he was. All that changed," the actor said in an interview with Variety.

Tensions between Donald Trump and Hollywood figures are not new. Trump has frequently attacked Clooney, calling him a “third-rate actor” and a “fake movie star.” Political rhetoric and public reactions continue to escalate, especially in the wake of important political developments in the US.
