Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi could be formally tried on rape charges following a request from the Nanterre public prosecutor's office, Le Parisien in France reports.
The alleged incident dates back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman visited Hakim at his home after connecting via Instagram. She later accused him of rape and during a face-to-face testimony in December 2023, she reaffirmed her version of events.
Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations, calling them part of an attempt to extort money. Meanwhile, PSG have issued statements in support of the player and confidence in the judicial process.
Although Hakimi has already been placed under judicial supervision, including a ban on contact with the accuser, the prosecutor's request for formal charges means that a criminal trial could proceed, depending on the decision of an investigating magistrate.
The alleged victim's lawyer has described this action as an important step towards accountability.
Hakimi is currently on vacation and was seen in the company of former teammate and Real Madrid superstar, Kylian Mbappe.
