Direct qualification for the 1/8 finals of the Champions League is a reward in terms of sport but also financial for Barcelona. In fact, the figure gained by the Catalan club in this stage of the most important European competition is a considerable 33 million euros.
Thus, Barcelona receives 11 million euros for directly qualifying for the 1/8 finals without going through the play-off phase, to which figure is added 2 million euros for being positioned among the top 16 and 8.8 million euros for being ranked fifth. This last figure is a bonus that is given depending on the classification and starts with 275 thousand euros for the last-place team to end with 9.9 million euros for the first-place team, which this season was Arsenal.
To these figures are added those gained from the results in this first phase; 10.5 million euros secured by Barcelona for the 5 victories (2.1 million euros per victory) and 700 thousand euros for the draw with Bruges. At the end of the calculations, the total figure results in 33 million euros from the first phase alone.
But not only that, we should not forget the figure of 18.62 million euros that Barcelona and all other clubs have secured just from participating in this first part of the Champions League, while another 35.38 million euros come from the combination of the 'market pool' with the team's historical coefficient in the last 10 years.
As usual, this income will be supplemented by bonuses for qualifying for the following rounds. So if they reach the quarter-finals, Barcelona will benefit from 12.5 million euros, 15 million euros if they advance to the semi-finals and 18.5 million euros if they reach the final, to which figure is added another 4 million euros in the event of lifting the trophy with big ears.
