The World Cup brings revolution, red cards for players who cover their mouths

FIFA is set to adopt two new disciplinary rules soon that could come into effect from this summer's World Cup. The changes are aimed at addressing inappropriate behaviour on the pitch and increasing respect for referees.

According to the announcement, players who communicate while covering their mouths during a match will be punished with a red card. The measure aims to prevent the use of offensive language, including racist or homophobic expressions, which often go unproven because of this gesture.

Another proposed rule would see any player who leaves the field without the referee's permission be sent off with a red card. This is seen as an attempt to strengthen the authority of referees, whose decisions have been increasingly subject to criticism in recent years.

" Any player who leaves the field of play in protest against a referee's decision will be punished with a red card. This norm will also apply to any member of the technical staff who encourages players to leave the field of play, " says the new norm approved by IFAB.

FIFA argues that these measures will help reduce exaggerated protests and emotional outbursts, which negatively affect the image of the game.

The new rules are expected to be reviewed for approval by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the sole body authorized to change the laws of the game. A final decision is expected to be made at the upcoming FIFA Congress, which will be held next week.
