Albanian wrestler Islam Dudaev failed to be crowned European champion in the event held in Tirana, losing in the final to Russian Bashir Magomedov. In the freestyle 65 kg weight class, Dudaev was dominated by his opponent, who won with a clear score of 10-0.
The final did not leave much room for reaction from the red-and-black athlete, as Magomedov controlled the match from start to finish, closing the challenge without giving Dudaev a chance to recover.
However, the Albanian wrestler's performance throughout the championship is considered positive, as he managed to secure the silver medal, one of the most important results for Albania in this discipline. For this achievement, Dudaev will also receive a reward of 4 million new lek from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Dudaev's path to the final was convincing. He started the competition by defeating the Turkish Ahmet Duman with a score of 6-1 in the qualifying stage. In the quarterfinals he overcame the Georgian Nika Zakashvili with a score of 3-1, while in the semifinals he achieved a clean 4-0 victory over Islam Guseinov, who competes under the banner of the World Wrestling Federation.
Even the European champion, Bashir Magomedov, competed under the same flag, due to Russia's exclusion from international sporting activities following geopolitical developments.
Meanwhile, another success for Albania comes from Zelimkhan Abakarov, who has secured a place in the finals in the weight class up to 61 kilograms. He will face Zavur Uguev for the gold medal in the challenge that will take place on Sunday, the last day of the championship.
