AEK Athens have put Mario Mitaj back in the spotlight, with the Greek club considering the possibility of bringing him back to the squad during the summer transfer window. According to Greek media, sporting director Javier Ribalta is being involved in this operation.
The Athenian team, which was declared champion and will participate in the qualifying stages of the Champions League, aims to build a more competitive team for the next season. Greek media "Sport 24" reports that AEK's interest in the Albanian defender remains active and concrete.
Mitaj, 22, is a product of AEK's academy and made his professional debut with the Athens club. A potential return would see him join the same squad as two other Albanian internationals, Thomas Strakosha and Stavro Pilon.
Mitaj currently plays for Al Itihad, where he has had a difficult season. The Albanian defender has not had much space in the Saudi championship, partly due to restrictions related to the number of foreign players allowed in the team.
