The Lausanne CAS has given the green light to FIFA's selection to complete the group of teams participating in the Club World Cup it is organizing this summer, following the exclusion of the Mexican team Leon.
FIFA had excluded this club because it was dependent on the "Pachuca Group", which owns the club of the same name in Mexico, which had also secured the ticket for the tournament. The Mexicans' appeal was rejected today by CAS and so it will be up to FIFA to make its choice for the tournament.
Europeans were hoping that one of the big names would join the tournament with an invitation from FIFA, as was done with Inter Miami. Barcelona, Liverpool, Arsenal and Milan were among the teams hoping for an invitation. But international media are certain that such a thing will not be possible.
FIFA is expected to soon formalize a single-elimination match between Mexico's América De Cali and Los Angeles FC, the recent winners of the Mexican and MLS championships, respectively. The winner will secure the spot vacated by Leon on the tournament's roster.
