
The Serbian Cup quarter-final match between Novi Pazar and Crvena Zvezda was accompanied by strong tensions in the stands and incidents outside the stadium.
The Red Star team won the match, but the main attention was in the stadium stands.
The match was interrupted in the 50th second, for about seven minutes, while during the match there were other interruptions due to tensions and clashes between fans and police forces.
Red Star fans chanted the name of war criminal Ratko Mladić. On the other hand, Novi Pazar fans reacted with chants of “Naser Orić” and “Kosovo is Albanian”, while songs with the lines: “We are left without Kosovo, it was Serbian, now it is Albanian… Kosovo will not return.”
The events at the stadium have caused reactions in Serbia, writes Russian media telegraf.rs .
The Serbian government has proposed to the Serbian Football Federation to consider punitive measures.
Novi Pazar fans have rivalries and tensions with many Serbian fan groups and often cheer or sing in support of Kosovo during matches. Albanian footballer Driton Camaj is also active in the Novi Pazar team.
