Manchester United are set to appoint Michael Carrick as interim manager, with an official announcement expected within the next 48 hours.
The former Red Devils midfielder appeared at the club to finalise a deal to take charge of the team until the end of the season following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.
Talks have now moved to Carrick's staff meeting, and while an announcement is unlikely to be made today, the 44-year-old is expected to lead training on Wednesday when the squad returns from a two-day break.
Carrick, a five-time Premier League winner as a player at Old Trafford, previously took charge of the team following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and attracted attention during his time at Middlesbrough, where he led the team from relegation danger in the play-offs and reached the semi-finals of the League Cup.
United are seventh in the Premier League, just three points off fourth place, but are out of both cups.
Caretaker manager Darren Fletcher has urged his players to "dig deep" and show the right reaction to regain the support of the fans, with the crucial Manchester derby against City next Saturday now the focus of European qualification hopes.
This guy was the best midfielder of Manchester United with the nick name Rolls Royce midfielder in English football. He is smart, serious and hard working man.
