The arrest of Ilir Meta was one of the questions addressed to the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, during the session in the Albanian Parliament.
More specifically, MP Tedi Blushi asked Dumani why SPAK avoided the BKH and gave the police a free hand in the case of the arrest of PL president Ilir Meta.
Dumani, in his response, said that the execution of the measures is the responsibility of the State Police.
"The State Police is responsible for executing security measures. I also said this in response to previous questions from several MPs," said Dumani.
As for the transfer of Meta's arrest file from SPAK to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, Dumani said that this file is the competence of the General Prosecutor's Office.
"It is the competence of the General Prosecutor's Office. It is categorical and clear that we cannot investigate that criminal offense, but the subjects of the criminal offense are also not within the competence of SPAK," he said.
The manner in which former President Ilir Meta was arrested has caused strong debates, as he was forcibly removed from the vehicle in which he was traveling. Regarding the manner in which Meta was arrested, about 3 weeks after Ilir Proda took office as the General Director of the State Police, there have also been reactions from the Ombudsman, who conducted an investigation regarding the implementation of powers by the Police.
