The Ombudsman reports to the Assembly: In 2022, a record number of complaints
People's Advocate Erinda Ballanca

During the session in the Assembly, the Ombudsman Erinda Ballanca presented the 2022 annual report on Human Rights.

Ballanaca stated that last year there was a record number of complaints and according to her many of them were resolved without the need for a recommendation.

"I am in front of you today to present the report on Human Rights in the country for 2022. First of all, I thank the Assembly and the Parliamentary Committees for their cooperation during my mandate at the head of the Ombudsman. There have been difficulties, but it is important that the problems are addressed. The ideal moment for addressing human rights is during the EU accession process. Precisely in this context, I would ask the Assembly to pay as much attention as possible to addressing human rights issues.

We have published reports and this year we have brought many reports, from which we can learn a lot and we can learn new policies for the treatment of citizens. We are aware that the activity of the People's Advocate, even if it is done properly, contradicts the policy. We are the critical voice, and if the criticism is constructive, it is positive because we can get more attention from the state for the citizens.

The two columns are complaints handling and promotion and standards where we want to go. The year was a record year for complaints, with a total number of 6224 complaints. We have conducted 1826 administrative investigations. Beyond this multitude of investigations, we managed to resolve a very large number of cases without recommendation, about 800 cases. We addressed 249 reports with recommendations", said Ballaca.
