Meet Burbuqe Islam, the candidate for deputy in the May 11 elections...

The novelty of the May 11 elections is that new figures have emerged on the scene. In addition to the newly born parties, the traditional parties have also decided to promote new names. One of the new candidates for May 11 is Burbuqe Islami.

She is a prominent professional in the field of economics and finance, who has decided to engage in politics. In the May 11 elections, she is running for deputy under the PSD banner.

Education and Professional Career

Ms. Islami graduated with excellent results from the Faculty of Economics, University of Tirana, in the Finance-Accounting department. She is an Accounting Expert and Real Estate Appraiser, demonstrating deep expertise in these fields.

For nine years, she served as an asset administrator at the Agency for the Administration of Sequestered and Confiscated Assets, under the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Interior. In this role, she has managed assets seized by the state with integrity.

She has also been the coordinator of the Anti-Corruption Coordinators Network at the Intersectoral Commission on Corruption, playing a key role in efforts to combat corruption in the country.

Political Engagement and the Fight Against Corruption

As an economics expert, Burbuqe Islami has a clear mission: the uncompromising fight against corruption and organized crime. She has taken concrete steps in this direction, filing reports that have led to criminal proceedings and investigations by SPAK and the Tirana Prosecutor's Office against several former senior officials, including former Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior Besmir Beja, former Director of AAPSK Idriz Haxhiaj, Chief Administrator Musa Hyka, and the AAPSK financier.

Candidacy for deputy

Currently, Ms. Islami is a candidate for deputy in the Albanian Parliament, running on the open list of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in Tirana. The reason for running for this force is the public space that this entity created for her, as an opportunity to do her politics.

Motto and vision

Her motto is: “All together for each other”, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and solidarity in the fight against corruption and organized crime. Ms. Islami believes that only through a joint commitment can a more just and fair Albania be achieved for all citizens.

Asked why she rejected Edi Rama's offer on the "Deputy We Want" platform, she states: " Reason for rejection: Discrimination against women, nepotism and lack of fair competition in the Socialist Party. The fact that the SP no longer offers space for people with integrity, but only for those who are part of a corrupt system. Greed for power and wealth has darkened the eyes of the SP leadership, leaving out those who want to contribute honestly ."

Calling changing the PS and the fate of its leaders mission impossible, she emphasizes the fact that women and honest professionals have no place in the PS, since the top spots on the lists are assigned by Rama's inner circle. While the open lists are left to career politicians and the occasional activist just for visual advertising, advertising that Ms. Islami declares she cannot do, since she does not accept any pact outside of the uncompromising fight against corruption.

She has made it clear that this is no longer the Socialist Party of old, but a closed group of political oligarchs.

Islami declares to "Pamphlet" that the real alternative is the fight against corruption, not the continuation of a rotten system, stating that:

-“The MP We Want” = The MP appointed by Rama!

-Rama's SP – a private club, not an open party!

-Rejection of the platform, rejection of corruption!

-Words are a lie, lists show reality!
