Dritan Goxhaj left the prison cell this afternoon. The Court of Appeal decided today the process against him on the right track, putting an end to the maneuvers to extradite him to The Hague. The Special Court charged him with leaking secrets and witnesses for the process against KLA leaders and Goxhaj was arrested.
The first instance approved the arrest, while today everything was dropped in the Appeal. The judge ordered his release, making a historic decision.
Goxhaj told the media that it was an attempt to intimidate him and those who fought for the freedom of Kosovo.
" We never lost our freedom. Neither I nor the KLA had lost their freedom. It was simply an attempt to scare us, to scare us and fill our minds that we were not on the right path. The fact that despite all the efforts of this justice reform to remove from the system even capable and patriotic judges, fortunately they have not reached that state. Today we managed to show you that we are on the right path and we have fought rightly ," he said.
Dritan Goxhaj was arrested on July 31, 2023 with an arrest warrant issued by the Special Court of Kosovo for the purpose of extradition to The Hague. The Special Court of Kosovo has issued an arrest warrant for the escort of the American troops during the War in Kosovo in 1999, after accusing him of revealing the names of witnesses in several cases previously opened by the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo.
Dritan Goxhaj has joined the KLA as an officer of the Albanian Army at the aviation school.
Goxhaj had the authorization of the General Staff to maintain contact with the command of the American forces in Albania. Some time ago, Goxhaj had mentioned the minister's adviser, Albulena Haxhiu, as a possible witness in the process against Salih Mustafa.
"The third witness, also protected and hidden, is called Nazlie Balaj. This is an advisor to the Minister of Justice in the Government of Kosovo. Apart from the fact that she is a relative of the victim, no one can figure out how she could be a witness to an event that she only heard about," he said.
Bala reacted to Goxhaj's words, saying that he was endangering his life. After this article, accusations were raised against him.
Colonel Goxhaj voluntarily joined the war in Kosovo, where as an experienced soldier he helped the Kosovo Liberation Army.
