The dream of many Albanians to enter and live in the US is becoming increasingly difficult. Even those who have been able to touch America and are there without a residence permit are facing deportation.
Almost every week there are Albanians who are deported after being apprehended by ICE, the American Immigration and Customs Enforcement team put into action after Donald Trump declared war on illegal immigrants in the US.
Top Channel asked ICE via email how many Albanians without the right to reside in the US are detained, including the number deported to Albania during 2025.
An ICE spokesman did not provide details on the numbers but said: " If you are considering entering America illegally, do not even think about it. If you come here in violation of our laws, you will likely face the law and we will deport you. You will never be able to return to the United States of America again."
Journalist Muhamed Veliu has learned from diplomatic sources that the US Embassy in Tirana has helped establish a special unit within the State Police dedicated to combating the trafficking of Albanians to the US.
The same sources indicated that this unit, according to standard protocol, interviews all Albanians deported from the US to learn how they were able to enter illegally. This is considered intelligence gathering with the aim of identifying routes and methods of trafficking. Trafficking of Albanians to the US continues through the classic route of going to Mexico, waiting several weeks until the moment when traffickers create the conditions for passage.
Another method is the use of counterfeit European passports. If for many years the Kavaja route reigned supreme in the production of counterfeit documents, the glory of that time has faded.
This unit within the State Police, through interviews with those deported from the US, has been able to identify Kosovo as a place of production of counterfeit passports, even of high quality as a result of the use of super modern computers and printers.
However, there is no shortage of attempts within Albania to produce such passports, such as the most recent case in Tirana when 5 months ago, a father and son were arrested for this criminal activity. According to investigations, the counterfeit passports were sold for between 15,000 and 20,000 euros and were used to illegally cross into EU countries and the United States of America./ TCH
