Kujtim Cakrani, the lawyer of former President Ilir Meta, said that the judge of the preliminary hearing, Irena Gjoka, who must decide regarding the SPAK file in charge of the leader of the PL, is under blackmail from the Special Prosecution Office.
Cakrani stated that after consultations with his client, Ilir Meta, he will also have a position regarding the judge of the preliminary hearing.
The GJKKO has postponed for the second time in a row the hearing where it will be determined whether or not the SPAK file in charge of Ilir Meta will go to trial.
Cakrani, in a statement to the media, said that Judge Irena Gjoka decided to postpone the session because one of the lawyers was absent. He warned that his battle will be to remove Judge Gjoka from this case, emphasizing that she is not capable of making a decision on whether or not the file should go to trial.
"I was there, the law clearly stipulates what happens, but Gjoka refers to a decision from 2003. I told her in the courtroom that she has her own problems, she is under blackmail from SPAK prosecutors. But this is her problem and not Ilir Meta's problem," said Cakrani.
SPAK claims that corruption schemes and abuse of power were uncovered during the investigations. In addition to Meta and Kryemadhi, three other people have been sent to trial.
On August 29, the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office closed the investigations and sent Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi to trial, on charges of passive corruption, money laundering, and failure to declare assets.
Recall that Meta has opposed the first instance decision, requesting the mitigation or lifting of the arrest measure, while his defense has described the measure as unjustified and political.
