KSHM: Accusations and allegations without facts against journalists are pressure on the media and an attempt to delegitimize professional journalism

The Albanian Media Council has reacted to Monika Kryemadhi's statements against journalist Lindita Çela, describing them as unacceptable attacks on the media and the professional integrity of journalists.

Through a public response, the Kosovo Press Council expresses concern about the accusations and insinuations made by the former MP towards the Shteg.org journalist, emphasizing that such statements constitute pressure on journalists and violate the climate of media freedom.

The debate began after Monika Kryemadhi publicly mentioned journalist Lindita Çela during a television interview, where she spoke about the investigation into the CEZ-DIA affair.

" The history of CEZ-DIA began through an article written by Lindita Çela, which she received from Lulzim Basha ," declared Kryemadhi.

Following this statement, the Albanian Media Council reacted, emphasizing that nominal attacks on journalists without presenting evidence constitute an attempt to delegitimize professional journalism.

" Insults, accusations and insinuations unfounded in fact, as well as attempts to violate the professional integrity of a journalist without providing facts, constitute simply pressure on journalists and an attempt to delegitimize professional journalism, which is unacceptable in a democratic society ," the KSHM's response states.

The Albanian Media Council has also joined the Albanian Journalism Alliance's call on political and public actors to show content in public language and respect the role of the media in informing citizens and ensuring accountability.

The reaction of the KSHM

The Albanian Media Council expresses concern about the nominal attacks by former Albanian Parliament member, Ms. Kryemadhi, against journalist Lindita Çela.

Attacks, accusations and insinuations unfounded in fact, as well as attempts to undermine the professional integrity of a journalist without providing facts, simply constitute pressure on journalists and an attempt to delegitimize professional journalism, which is unacceptable in a democratic society.

The Kosovo Human Rights Council joins the call of the Albanian National Assembly to all political and public actors to show restraint in public language and to respect the role of the media as a guarantor of public information and democratic accountability.

The Albanian Media Council recommends that concerns about ethical violations be resolved through a complaint to self-regulatory bodies, namely the Ethical Media Alliance (of which Shteg.org is a member) and the Albanian Media Council, through this link:  https://aleancaetike.media/ame/
