The "brain" of the Central Election Commission has these days been moved to a room where it is decided whether an Albanian living abroad will vote in the 2025 parliamentarians or not.

This decision is made based on the form filled out on the electronic registration platform, where figures show that errors in applications from the diaspora are numerous. Top Channel closely looked at several cases of rejection and the causes of inaccuracies in requests coming from abroad.

"The case in question is an application from Germany, where the voter's manual address filling seems to have been done correctly, but the address verification is missing because they have inserted an Albanian passport that does not verify the address of residence abroad. In this case, the person must bring German documentation, the simplest one, the German ID card, which has the address of residence on the back ," says Redion Lila.

The errors that operators commonly encounter are applications arriving from Italy where Albanians forget to scan the back of the document containing the address and are satisfied with only the front.

" It is enough to take a photo of only the back page where his name and surname are located, which we need to verify his identity, and he also has the address, which is enough for us as proof," he further states.

Case number three that often occurs is the incomplete uploading of documents that prove the address where the ballot should go.

"We have an application coming from Greece, the voter in question has submitted an official Greek document consisting of two or three pages, where the first page has his name and that of his family and the second page has his address. He has submitted only the first page. This case will result in rejection and he can reapply ," he adds.

Data shows that Albanians are spread across the four corners of the globe, from developed countries to forgotten ones. But the large influx of registration requests is accompanied by thousands of rejections, but the diaspora has the chance to correct the application by reading the full reasons that go to its address in PER as to where it went wrong./ TCh
