The US Embassy in Tirana has issued another appeal to Albanian citizens to respect visa conditions and not violate them.
"It is unacceptable for foreign parents to use a U.S. tourist visa with the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States to secure citizenship for the child, which may include medical care expenses covered by American taxpayers."
"This is known as 'birth tourism' and US consular officers deny all such visa applications under US immigration law," the US embassy in Tirana said in a message posted on social media.
The US Embassy calls on Albanian citizens not to misuse tourist visas, specifically not to travel to give birth in the US.
"Those who abuse our immigration system through birth tourism may lose their eligibility for future visas or travel to the United States. This is yet another way the U.S. Department of State is serving and protecting American taxpayers and communities," the U.S. Embassy in Tirana said in a statement.
