Bad weather in the country, 15 cm of snow in Qafë Thore; authorities appeal

Shkodër Region is facing snowfall mainly in mountainous areas, while in low-lying areas rainfall continues. The Prefect of Shkodër Region informs that the situation is being constantly monitored by the responsible structures on the ground and so far no serious problems in road traffic have been reported. However, due to the presence of snow and frost on some roads, citizens are asked to show increased caution while driving.

The Shkodra Local Police Directorate has increased patrols on roads with high traffic flow, especially where snowfall and frost have been observed. The Traffic Police appeals to vehicle drivers to equip themselves with winter tires or chains and to respect traffic rules to avoid accidents.

On the Bogë–Theth axis, the maintenance company's vehicles are on the ground and are carrying out the salting, although in some segments the road appears to be frozen. In Qafë Thore, the snow thickness reaches about 15 cm, but traffic continues without problems. Snowfall is also reported in the Malësi e Madhe Municipality (about 3 cm in Koplik), the Fushë-Arrëz Municipality (5–8 cm) and the Pukë Municipality (about 5 cm), where the roads are open and traffic is proceeding normally.

In parallel, the authorities have issued a notice of deteriorating marine hydrometeorological conditions during the period 2–7 January 2026. According to forecasts, the wind in the south-southwest direction is expected to reach force 5–6, with a speed of 10–15 m/s and waves from 1 to 1.5 meters. For this reason, from 06:00 on 2 January to 06:00 on 7 January, it is prohibited to issue a departure permit to small vessels and fishing vessels, inside and outside the Gulf of Vlora.

Vessel and fishing vessel operators are advised to take into account the deteriorating conditions and to implement all necessary measures to ensure the safety of their vessels and the readiness of their crews. International maritime transport vessels will continue to operate normally according to their destinations. Improvement in conditions is expected after 06:00 on 7 January 2026.
