Former Interior Minister Sandër Lleshaj has described the violent protests organized by the opposition, and especially the Molotov cocktail attack on the artists' villa, as a sign of desperation and a lack of political creativity.
Lleshaj expressed his regret for the violence and incidents that have accompanied the recent protests.
"I feel sorry. I try to see that the country needs political dynamics, creativity, ideas and challenges. Molotov is not politics. It is not an option. It is simply an expression of despair and the lack of creativity that gives the current government fuel for survival," he told "Report TV".
The events of last week, where Democratic Party militants threw Molotov cocktails at Villa 31, the former residence of dictator Enver Hoxha, where artistic activities are currently taking place, have also caused strong reactions from the international community.
The French Embassy in Tirana, the European Union delegation and other diplomatic representations condemned the acts of violence, calling them unacceptable. They stressed that the incidents endangered the lives of foreign artists and called for restraint and respect for democratic standards during the protests.
