Today, President Bajram Begaj was present at the "Sustainable Defense" exercise of the Light Infantry Group-Battalion that took place in the Luf region of Puka.
This NATO-certified unit is considered a force ready for deployment and operation in full interaction with the North Atlantic Alliance.
President Begaj assessed that the Group-Battalion exercise shows that Albania is ready and able to defend itself and to actively contribute to the collective defense, especially in the South-East wing of NATO.
Operational capacities and new equipment were tested during the exercise.
"In this way, you prove the operational capabilities to act and carry out combat operations in any type of geographical terrain and in any type of circumstances", said President Begaj.
This exercise takes place at the same time as Steadfast Defender 24, NATO's largest exercise in decades.
"NATO is showing that it is a powerful alliance, capable and ready to protect the population and territory of member countries in the Euro-Atlantic space from all threats, in a 360-degree approach," continued the president.
President Begaj reconfirmed the stand by NATO for Ukraine, while also speaking about the real risk of escalation of hot spots, referring to the situation in the Middle East, but also the fragile situation in the Balkans.
"In this context, your training takes on another meaning and importance. You, as a participant in this exercise, and the entire body of the Armed Forces, are the first line of defense and guarantee of security and peace. Your role for Albania and Albanians is not only vital, but also strategic", declared the Head of State.
The President of the Republic also emphasized the importance of further strengthening transatlantic ties.
While evaluating the progress of the Albanian Armed Forces since joining NATO, the Head of State stated that the continuation of their modernization is a matter of national security.
"I appreciate every initiative in the direction of supporting the well-being of the Armed Forces personnel, because for the protection of the country it is not spent, but invested for the provision of the present and the future", said Begaj.
He also emphasized the importance of the image and message that the Armed Forces convey to the public, stating that "Above all, it must transmit the deeply patriotic mission that you fulfill. This communication should happen especially with the young generation", said Begaj.
"Being part of the Armed Forces today is not just a profession, it is a matter of national pride and patriotism", declared President Begaj in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces during the training of the Light Infantry Group-Battalion, where they participated and the Minister of Defense, Peleshi, the Chief of the General Staff, General Kingji, and the Commander of the Ground Forces, General Xhebezhia.
